Sarah
has been studying, teaching and inviting others into the joy and potency
of movement exploration for over thirty-five years. She earned her BA degree in Physical Education from California
State University at Northridge where she was a competitive gymnast.
She spent ten years teaching physical education and coaching
after school sports for junior high school students in the Santa Cruz
Mountains. Ever circling in
the background was, and remains, the question – what is the intrinsic
value and potency of movement beyond sports and competition? She
left the public school system in 1980 and spent seven years working in Yosemite
National Park, exploring movement in and of nature. During that time she was introduced to and continues to be
inspired by the work of Emilie Conrad, creator/founder of Continuum,
exploring the essential, primary movements common to all life forms that
lie beneath cultural influence. The
work of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais was a natural addition to Sarah’s
on-going exploration and immersion into the potency of personal movement
inquiry. She completed a
four year Feldenkrais® Professional Training Program, directed by Anal
Baniel, in 1994 and has been offering on-going Feldenkrais Awareness
Through Movement® classes and individual Functional Integration® sessions ever since.
She is a Guild Certified
Feldenkrais Practitionercm through the , Feldenkrais
Guild®
of North America, of which she is a professional member. In
addition to focused study in the Feldenkrais
Method® and Continuum, Sarah has explored and is
informed by other movement modalities that focus on continually asking
questions rather than landing on answers.
Some of the modalities she particularly enjoys include Authentic
Movement, various styles of Yoga, Tai
Chi, the Rhythms
of Life work of Gabrielle Roth and sacred dance.
She is an outdoor enthusiast, is inspired by creative movement of
all kinds and is also an experienced sedentary (read computer) person. Over the past 14 years in Flagstaff, Sarah has provided introductory workshops in Awareness Through Movement through the Flagstaff Athletic Club, NAU Employee Assistance and Wellness Center, NAU Personal and Professional Development Program, and Flagstaff Parks and Recreation Senior Heath and Fitness Day.
