Karen Anderson, M. A.

Karen received her undergraduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in Exercise Science and Nutritional Science in 1989 and earned her masters degree in Counseling, with an emphasis in Dance-Movement Therapy from Columbia College, Chicago in 1997.

She has been a nutritionist and wellness coordinator for Canyon Ranch Spa and Resort in Tucson Arizona, a nutritionist for the University of Wisconsin Extension and numerous other health and medical facilities before coming to Flagstaff.

With an extensive background in health, fitness, and dance, Karen has been an instructor, group fitness director and personal trainer at numerous health clubs and colleges around the country. She has instructed many types of movement to a wide variety of people for more than twenty years.

Karen holds aerobic and health/fitness certifications from AFAA and the ACSM. She is also certified as a Pilates instructor, indoor cycling instructor, Peri-natal fitness instructor, Kickboxing instructor, Yoga instructor and has specialized certifications in Turbo kick, Aqua fitness and as of summer of 2007 Zumba.

She is the single mother of two amazing sons. Karen is an avid outdoors person who loves movement of any kind especially backpacking, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and expressive forms of dance.  Instructing movement/fitness is her love and is passionate about helping people, no matter what their age, gender or ability level, to learn to enjoy moving their bodies and to care for themselves.

Her area of special interest is helping women begin and continue physical activity, to lose weight and/or realize a fitness goal/dream.  She would like to be a catalyst for women to realize their total beauty (body, mind, and spirit) and to live from a place of self knowledge, health, and self empowerment.
